Types of Divorce recognized in Georgia:
In the state of Georgia, when the court orders a final divorce, it means that the divorce is permanent. That is, the divorce is final which allows both parties to legally remarry. The divorce also terminates all property claims.
In Georgia, you can get a divorce if there is absolutely no chance in salvaging your marriage. This is referred to as "no-fault" divorce. Most divorces are granted if and when the marriage is "irretrievably broken." In such cases, it is not required to show any wrongdoing or fault.
In terms of an annulment, that is a declaration by a court that a marriage never existed. This is when it states it was never a valid marriage to begin with. It’s rare for courts to grant an annulment, so this isn’t always the best option if you are interested in dissolving your marriage.
Georgia also allows the filing or an action for separate maintenance (a legal separation). This includes all issues of a divorce, except that there is no divorce.
